Conservation and Environmental Platform for the 2009 Legislative sessionHello Green Voters,
Each legislative session, VLCV convenes the Vermont Environmental Collaborative (VEC) in order to produce the Conservation and Environmental Platform. The Platform represents the common agenda of 14 statewide environmental and conservation groups in Vermont. On February 6th, VLCV held their annual legislative breakfast in the Vermont State House, which marks the official release of the Platform. The breakfast was a huge success and was very well attended.
VLCV would like to thank Governor Jim Douglas and all the legislators who attended the 2009 event.
During the 2009 legislative session, VLCV and the Vermont Environmental Collaborative will be working on a host of issues which break down into four primary categories:
Energy
- Close the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant in 2012.
- Increase both small-scale and large-scale renewable energy projects.
Smart Growth and Land Conservation
- Adequately fund the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board.
- Support Downtown and Village Center Development.
- Protect Vermont’s working landscapes.
Transportation
- Increase public transportation throughout Vermont.
- Employ a “Fix-It-First” philosophy regarding Vermont’s infrastructure.
- Enhance the safety of Vermont’s Bicyclists and Pedestrians.
Waste Management
- Support programs to increase recycling and composting thereby supporting a “zero waste” philosophy.
This represents a very brief overview of the Platform. Please go to VLCV’s website to view the 2009 Conservation and Environmental Platform in its entirety and to see photos from the Legislative Breakfast.
VLCV is in the State House every day advocating for sound environmental policies. We can only do this with your support. Please consider donating to VLCV to ensure that we can continue working to turn your environmental values into state priorities.
Thank you for your time and commitment to Vermont’s environment
Sincerely,
Todd Bailey Executive Director
